About Catherine

I’m a clinical hypnotherapist and psychotherapist using a Solution Focused approach. We work together on small, practical steps that help you move towards the future you want, rather than getting stuck in the past. Sessions focus on what is already working, what you would like to be different, and how you can begin to notice those changes in everyday life.

I support people with stress, anxiety, busy minds, confidence, performance, overcoming unwanted habits and feeling overwhelmed. The work is collaborative and present focused: we notice your strengths, set realistic goals, and build momentum session by session.

Sessions are calm and structured. You leave with simple ideas and strategies to use between appointments. Over time, those small steps add up to meaningful change.

Alongside my hypnotherapy work, I have over twenty years’ experience in education as a teacher and department lead. For the last decade I’ve specialised in trauma-informed practice, supporting young people and families with social, emotional and mental health needs. This experience shapes the way I work: steady, compassionate and clear.

    We notice what is happening now: patterns, strengths, and small exceptions when things go better. We recognise the point you are at in your life and begin to notice what already helps, even in small ways.

  2. Where do we want to be?

    We shape a clear, realistic picture of progress: what you will be doing, feeling and noticing. The first step is to send an enquiry, then we arrange a brief phone call and an initial consultation, followed by as many (or as few) sessions as feel right for you, either in Clifton or online.

  3. How do we get there?

    We take practical steps and use Solution Focused Hypnotherapy, neuroscience and focused relaxation to help your brain learn new patterns. With your determination and support in session, small changes can build into lasting shifts in how you feel and respond.

I feel in a much better place than before seeing Catherine for therapy. I was having feelings of total overwhelm and paralysis, resulting in crying and feelings of hopelessness. The session would end with a relaxation exercise, in which she would talk me through a visualisation, but there was no pressure to actually listen or visualise, resulting in a really deep relaxation. I found her voice calming and soothing and I felt very safe. She gave me a recording of the relaxation exercise, which I listened to every night, and still do. It helps me get to sleep and I believe contributes to my wellbeing. Each session had a similar pattern.

What is solution focused hypnotherapy?

A collaborative, future-focused way of working that builds on your strengths and practical steps you can take now. We notice what is already helping, clarify what you would like to be different, and use hypnosis as a natural, comfortable state to help your mind focus on those changes.

How many sessions will I need?

It varies from person to person and depends on what you would like to work on. Many people notice useful changes within a few sessions. We will review progress together and you decide when you feel you have what you need.

Is online as effective as in person?

Yes. In a quiet, private space, online sessions work just as well as in-person appointments and are especially helpful if you are not near Clifton. Some people prefer the comfort of their own home, while others like coming to the therapy room – we can choose what feels right for you.
